Why do Smarkets charge commission?
Commission is the fee Smarkets charges to facilitate peer-to-peer betting on our exchange.
Our Standard rate of commission is 2% on your net winnings for any given market and not on individual bets. Therefore, if you make a net loss on a market, you do not pay commission.
The commission paid on your net winnings can be viewed on your statement. This article explains how to use your account statement.
The 2% charged is an industry low. Smarkets do not build a margin into their odds, unlike other bookmakers. Therefore, even when factoring commission into the odds, Smarkets will often be best priced across the market.
