When placing a lay (against) bet, the standard setting on Smarkets is to input how much you want to win from the bet. Your liability - how much you have risked - is then calculated based on the odds. This can be reversed so that you input the liability you are willing to risk by changing the backer's stake setting.

You can change to enter the stake as liability on your settings page.

Changing the backer’s stake option

1. Click on your balance, then select the settings option from the drop-down menu.                               
2. Select the general tab.
3. You'll then see the backer's stake button which can be toggled on or off. Simply click this to enter your liability as your stake for lay bets. The odds will then be used to calculate your potential profit from your bet.
