What is a Lucky 15 bet?

A Lucky 15 is a type of bet that consists of four singles, six doubles, four trebles and one four-fold accumulator - totalling 15 bets. To place a Lucky 15, you simply choose four different selections and these are automatically put into the combinations previously mentioned. As you’re essentially placing 15 bets within one, it’s important to remember that your stake will be multiplied by 15, so a £1 Lucky 15 would mean fronting a £15 stake. You cannot choose to place more on the singles and less on the doubles, trebles or four fold for example, your stake will be spread equally across all of the bets.

Simply put, there are 15 bets within a Lucky 15 to cover every possible combination of your four selections, for example there are four singles so that if just one of your picks comes in you will get some returns. If two of your selections come in, this will be covered not only in two of the singles but also in one of the six doubles made from the four selections and so on. Naturally, the more of your selections that are successful, the higher your returns will be. Let’s say for example that three of your four picks were winners, you’d win three of the singles, three of the doubles and one of the trebles which would secure a good profit. The best case scenario is obviously that all four picks come in and you win all 15 bets within the Lucky 15.

But why place a Lucky 15 and not a normal accumulator? Well, a big downside of a normal accumulator is that if just one of your selections loses the whole bet is off. With a Lucky 15 however, as mentioned before, three of your four selections could lose but you’d still get something back from one of your singles. It should be noted though that depending on the odds of each of your selections, if just one of them comes in you may not actually make much or any profit. Generally speaking you’d hope for at least two of the four to win in order to get an acceptable return.

Overall, a Lucky 15 is much more forgiving, but the flipside of that is you’ll obviously need to stake a lot more than you would with a regular accumulator. Another advantage a Lucky 15 has over a traditional accumulator is that should all four of your selections come in, you’d win much more than you would with a standard four-fold accumulator. This is because you not only win the four-fold in the Lucky 15, but all of the trebles, doubles and singles as well.

So, it really comes down to personal preference in terms of whether you’d opt for a Lucky 15 or a standard accumulator. The question is simpy, would you rather stake more in order to have more chances of winning, and potentially winning big? If the answer is yes then a Lucky 15 could be for you. Lucky 15’s can be placed on any sport, or a combination of different sports, but horse racing and football are two of the most common choices.

Can I do an each-way Lucky 15?

Yes, you can place an each-way Lucky 15 bet, but it’s important to remember that your stake will be double that of a win-only Lucky 15. This is because an each-way bet contains two wagers within one, with one bet on a horse to win and one bet on it to finish in the places. Within a Lucky 15, this essentially means that you are placing 30 bets as opposed to the 15 that would be in a win-only Lucky 15. Although an each-way Lucky 15 will clearly involve quite a substantial stake, it would provide you with a lot more chances of getting some returns. The already forgiving nature of a Lucky 15 (with only one of your four selections needing to win to get some returns), combined with the higher chances provided by the each-way element, make it an attractive proposition for many horse racing bettors out there.

So, that is a Lucky 15 bet explained in simple terms, and as previously mentioned, it really comes down to personal preference in terms of whether you prefer that or a standard accumulator.
