Weekend Bundesliga Preview: Dortmund go for back-to-back victories

The Bundesliga returns this weekend with Borussia Dortmund aiming to make it two wins in a row since the league resumed, as they bid to catch league leaders Bayern Munich.

Borussia Monchengladbach (2.4) vs. Bayer Leverkusen (2.9)

Both sides are locked in a tussle with RB Leipzig for the remaining Champions League places and given how impressive each was last weekend, this should be a cracker.

Our market currently has Monchengladbach as the 40% favourites, with Leverkusen a 34% chance - as the odds suggest, this will likely be a tight game. However, given both sides' efficiency in front of goal and relative vulnerability in defence, the safest option here could be to look at the goals markets.

With a combined 23 in their last four games, Over 3.5 goals in this encounter makes plenty of appeal at 2.3 (43%)

Wolfsburg (4.9) vs. Borussia Dortmund (1.8)

Any doubts over the impact of the sidelined Marco Reus, Axel Witsel and Emre Can were quickly swept aside last week by Dortmund in an imperious derby victory over neighbours Schalke. Wolfsburg meanwhile, made tough work of beating Augsburg in injury time.

Taking the weekend performances into account and the fact that Dortmund are unbeaten in nine matches against Wolfsburg, the 1.8 (56%) on offer for an away win feels very generous. In addition, BVB haven’t conceded against the Wolves in their last six encounters - an away clean sheet is rated as a 3.0 (33%) chance on our market.

Another three points for Dortmund on Saturday would certainly add to an already-mouth-watering clash with Bayern next week.

SC Freiberg (2.3) vs. Werder Bremen (3.5)

There was arguably no team that needed the enforced break more than Werder Bremen, given the disastrous season they’ve endured so far, but any hope of a revival was quickly extinguished by Leverkusen on Monday night. Freiberg meanwhile were expected to struggle against Leipzig but earned an impressive point.

The home side have relied on their form at the Schwarzwwald this season to propel them into the Europa League placings, winning five of their last eight - bad news for a Bremen team that have conceded over two goals a game in their last nine, and failed to score in four of their last six in all competitions.

As such, a Freiberg win, currently 2.3 (43%) on our match odds market, seems worth taking advantage of.

Bayern Munich (1.17) vs. Eintracht Frankfurt (21.0)

Bayern returned to action with a workmanlike 2-0 win over Union Berlin on Sunday, struggling to find their rhythm initially but once settled, cruised to victory. Frankfurt were on the other side of a two-goal victory, offering very little resistance in a 3-1 loss to Monchengladbach.

Munich hold an 85% chance of victory in our match odds market, however given the away side’s defensive frailties, it would be no surprise to see Bayern assert their authority in much more exacting fashion this week - Over 3.5 goals is 1.72 (58%)

Frankfurt are also struggling in front of goal, scoring just twice in their last four matches and having been beaten 4-0 in their last two away trips - Bayern to keep a clean sheet stands out at 2.1 (48%).
